About Us

The Wales Mental Health in Primary Care Network (WaMH in PC) was established in 2003 to help promote and improve primary mental health care across Wales.

Launched initially under the title of the All Wales Primary Care Mental Health Network (AWPCMHN), our current title under WaMH in PC was adopted in 2004.

Throughout the aim of our organisation has been to provide a Welsh forum for like-minded individuals to work together to:

  • Improve the profile of mental health care services
  • Promote primary mental health care services
  • Develop new ways of thinking about and working with mental health problems in a primary care setting

Our network was established in response to the April 2002 publication of Adult Mental Health: A National Service Framework (NSF) for Wales and seen as a crucial channel for the effective application of the eight health and social service care standards identified by the Welsh NSF.

We are set up as an unincorporated association under the guiding principles and aims of our Constitution, which we adopted in October 2008, and run by a maximum membership of 20 Core Group Members headed by an annually-elected Chair and Vice Chair.

Since inception, we have worked alongside the Welsh Assembly Government to improve the of quality in mental health care in Wales through our Practitioners Network, which brings together including practitioners and  professionals, agencies and organisations, and carers, service users and their friends and family to help improve mental health services.

The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) Wales in Cardiff has provided administrative and funding support since 2003 and been responsible for organising a number of educational conferences, events and R&D programmes.
